The Duchess of Cornwall told a college student in Wales today she is looking forward to leaving the items at home once it is legal to do so. This week Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the requirement to wear face masks indoors will be scrapped on July 19.

Camilla told the student “I can’t wait to get rid of these” during a visit to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama this week.

She visited the educational establishment to learn how staff and students have coped during the pandemic.

The Duchess, 73, was also spotted wearing a Fitbit Charge 4 Fitness Tracker during the visit.

The device, which costs around £130, helps wearers track their efforts to stay in shape.

She arrived alongside her husband Prince Charles.

The royal couple were greeted by students and staff in the college’s foyer and the Duchess told William Pearson, studying for an MA in advanced opera performance, “I can’t wait to get rid of this” and touched her face mask.

Charles and Camilla were treated to a performances by students who have managed to continue their studies at the Cardiff-based college despite Covid restrictions

Zoe Goriely, 24, who completes an MA in acting this month, gave a heartfelt performance of a scene from Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

In the solo scene she played the character of a maid who teases her teenage ward about a love letter the young girl has received from an admirer, and at one point stamps on the pages of the note.

The 24-year-old spoke to the Prince and his wife after the performance and said later: “It’s lovely to be able to do what we love to do, for people who love what we do.”

Charles’ official harpist Alis Huws, who is a graduate of the college, also gave a performance before the royal couple met opera students in costume.

The Prince is the college’s president and while he held a private meeting with senior executives the duchess watched a brief scene from The Flying Bedroom – a children’s theatre production.

As Ruby Brown cradled a puppet she chatted to Camilla who said about the performance

She said: “It’s brilliant. I think it’s a lovely thing to do. You’re a really clever lady”.

The group of students began working together via video calls and are due to perform their show at Theatr Clwyd in north Wales in July and tour schools in the region in September.

The news emerged just days after it was claimed that Iceland bosses ordered staff to defy government guidance and remove their face masks to welcome Prince Charles to the store.

Managers at Iceland Foods HQ in Deeside were overheard telling workers to take off the coverings as a “bizarre” gesture to the Prince of Wales, reports North Wales Live.

A source told the site it made no sense as they had earlier been given branded masks to wear ahead of the royal’s visit to the branch.

Charles was pictured in high spirits – and wearing a mask – being escorted around the shop floor and the kitchen at the start of his annual Wales tour this week.

The royal was even spotted at a supermarket self-checkout during the visit to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.

A source told the Mirror: “They were talking about face coverings but Sir Malcolm wasn’t having it.

“He was being warned about the potential flak the company might get on social media – but he wasn’t bothered.”

Clarence House has not commented on the issue.

Iceland Foods was approached but declined to comment.
