Czech operator Allwyn welcomed the move and agreed to waive claims for costs or damages against Camelot Entities. Allwyn was selected to operate the Lottery by the UK Gambling Commission in March.

But the licence was contested in a legal challenge by Camelot – which has run it since its creation in 1994.

Allwyn Entertainment said of the truce last night: “We very much welcome this and look forward to co-operating with Camelot and the Gambling Commission on the transition process.

“Allwyn is excited at the prospect of becoming the custodian of Europe’s biggest lottery.”

It is involved with brands across Europe in Austria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Cyprus and Italy.

It will start running our National Lottery in February 2024.
