Cabinet minister 'visited parents during coronavirus lockdown'
A cabinet minister reportedly visited his parents during the coronavirus lockdown, despite repeatedly urging the public to stay at home.
Housing secretary Robert Jenrick made the trip despite telling others to avoid non-essential travel, according to The Guardian.
A witness told the paper that they saw Mr Jenrick, 38, visiting the property at the weekend. They said he was seen in the front garden of the detached house in a Shropshire village, where his father and mother, aged 79 and 69, live. It is more than an hour’s drive from the MP’s home in Herefordshire.
A source ‘close to Mr Jenrick’ said he did not enter the house and told the paper: ‘Mr Jenrick went to drop off essential medicines and food to his parents who are self-isolating at home due to their age. He followed guidance and left the items outside their home.’
In a recent article for the Mail on Sunday, Mr Jenrick wrote: ‘We will ensure those self-isolating at home in this category and who don’t have family, friends and neighbours as support, will receive the food and medical supplies they need, for as long it takes.’
He added: ‘The choices that we must make over the coming days and weeks can save many lives.

‘That means families making big sacrifices… for now, we must practise social distancing in order to tackle the spread of the virus.’
Mr Jenrick has repeatedly urged the public to stay home, saying ‘everyone needs to play their part’ and threatening ‘other options’ if the advice is ignored.
The revelations follow the resignation of Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer, who was heavily criticised for twice visiting her second home during the lockdown.
