Steven Todd has blasted Boris Johnson over his alleged Christmas party and quiz, said to have taken place in Downing Street last year when the resat of the UK was subject to strict lockdown rules. The businessman accused the Prime Minister of operating in a ‘two-tier system’ where those in power have different rules to the rest of the country.

But Mr Todd kept his Reps gym in Preston, Lancashire, open despite the restrictions during a lockdown. A district judge ordered him to close it in February for three months as a result, Lancs Live reports.

The court heard police raided the gym after understanding there were “at least 15 occasions when gyms were not permitted to open when Mr Todd was open for business.”

Mr Todd has since battled this through the courts and now says he won’t pay the £30,000 fines.

“I thought there was laws for us all but it doesn’t seem to be the case and that’s not very fair,” the businessman said.

“If you’re making legislation then you should be following it and setting an example, not flouting it.

“You can’t expect us to. Last Christmas, no one was allowed in anyone’s house – that’s not right.”

Mr Johnson this week came underfire over claims multiple boozy parties took place inside Downing Street last year in breach of rules forbidding mass gatherings.

Despite Mr Johnson repeatedly denying that any event took place and saying all rules were followed, his former spokesperson and adviser Allegra Stratton resigned after a leaked recording of her joking about such a party.

Boris Johnson also ordered an independent inquiry to be carried out by Cabinet Secretary Simon Case, who works closely with the Prime Minister.

But Mr Todd, from Preston, is furious with the apparent hypocrisy.

He added: “How can they have a party when they want all of us lot to go around with masks in the shops?

“It’s like a two-tier system. There’s rules for us and rules for them.

“It’s 100% unfair.”

New measures have been introduced in the UK to fight the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

Mr Johnson said face masks must now be worn in all indoor settings in England, including shops and restaurants.

And Covid passports – used to identify you’ve been vaccinated – will be introduced should a vote get passed in Parliament tomorrow.
