The Duke of Sussex has posted several videos and appeared on live TV during the coronavirus pandemic, and on all occasions he was standing in front of a plain beige background. Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are currently living in Tyler Perry’s £15million mansion in Beverly Hills, but they gave nothing of the glitz and glamour away in their videos. One broadcast in particular was when Harry appeared on BBC’s The One Show, after which the Twitter account Room Rater gave his background a 5/10.

Another Twitter user urged Harry to take tips from the Queen, who always has an extremely glamorous background.

For example, her Christmas message to the nation is famous for giving a glimpse into the extravagant rooms of Buckingham Palace.

One year, there was even a gold piano in the background.

The Twitter user said: “Needs to ask Grandma for some advice ASAP!

“She’s got a 10/10 early on and knows how to get it right the first time around. We deserve better.”

They attached a picture of the Queen and her background from when she delivered her coronavirus message to the nation earlier this year.

Another social media user said: “Come on, tell him he needs a plant.”

Yet another asked Room Rater: “How do you stay objective? Beige walls and wood cabinets would be an automatic 0/10 from me.”

However, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams insisted that it does not matter what the background is.

He told Express.co.uk that when people are discussing important subjects the aesthetics should not matter.

However, he did notice one “somewhat comic” thing about Harry’s joint broadcast with Meghan this month.

He said: “The focus must be on the speakers so drab backgrounds are not significant.

“However, in their video link to the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, Meghan appears to progressively edge Harry to the side of the screen during the broadcast which is, obviously unintentionally, somewhat comic!”

In their video link the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were discussing justice and equal rights with young leaders from the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, of which they are the President and Vice President respectively.

In the video, the couple said that the Commonwealth must acknowledge its past, even when it is uncomfortable to do so, because “everyone benefits”.

They covered topics like historic injustice, unconscious bias and racism in the light of the Black Lives Matter Movement.

Most notably, they touched on the Commonwealth itself, which grew out of the British Empire and is now headed by the Queen.

However, in his appearance on The One Show, Harry wanted to discuss another topic ‒ the Invictus Games and the postponement of the 2020 sporting event.

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multi-sport event created by Harry in which wounded, injured or sick people who have served in the armed forces take park in nine sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and indoor rowing.

Harry also listened to families of World War 2 veterans injured in battle, in particular soldiers who had received then-experimental reconstructive surgery.

Meanwhile, Meghan has delivered a speech at the Girl Up 2020 Leadership Summit and spoken out about the Black Lives Matter movement in a speech addressed to girls graduating her old high school, Immaculate Heart.

During the couple’s lockdown in Los Angeles, their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor turned one.
