Britons FURIOUS at supermarket madness as fight breaks out in coronavirus chaos

With the virus rapidly taking hold of the UK, members of the public have rushed to shops to stockpile supplies. Due to the number of shoppers “panic buying”, supermarkets will now impose shopping restrictions on certain goods starting from Thursday morning. In one particular video, two shoppers were seen fighting in a Tesco Metro in East London causing the store in question to be closed for 15 minutes.

In response, Express readers took to Facebook to express their rage at the reaction of the two shoppers.

Ralph Orton said: “If this all ends how will they see themselves in the mirror?

“How will that food taste? I’d sooner starve than be part of that.

“No self-respect let alone respect for others.”

Martin Traydor said: “This is really getting ridiculous, there are no food shortages, it’s still being produced and delivered, just people taking more than they should at the shops.”

Catherine McDermott said: “Amazing to think Britain survived two wars because communities worked together to make the most of what they had!

“Some of this lot don’t know the meaning of caring & sharing.”

Another person added: “I despair of my fellow human beings.”

From Thursday morning, Tescos and Sainsbury’s will ask customers to only buy three of any grocery item.

They will also shut fresh food counters while Asda and Morrisons will put limitations on 1,250 lines.

Online supermarket, Ocado did introduce a virtual queuing system but has now temporarily closed until Saturday.

Sainsbury’s chief executive Mike Coupe said: “We have enough food coming into the system, but are limiting sales so that it stays on shelves for longer and can be bought by a larger number of customers.”
