British man, 57, dies after being pulled from sea near popular Greek island

A British man has died in Greece after he was pulled unconscious from the sea surrounding the holiday island of Zakynthos.

The 57-year-old – who has not yet been named -was pronounced dead at a hospital on the island after he was found unconscious on a beach in the village of Laganas.

He was given emergency first aid from a lifeguard after he was pulled from the sea, according to local media.

It comes just one day after a four-year-old boy from Poland was swept out to sea in the same village.

Despite wearing a life-jacket, the unnamed boy was dragged out to sea by strong winds before emergency services managed to rescue him.

Meanwhile, tributes have been paid to a British man who died in a gliding accident in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountain range on Saturday.

Mike Evans, 75, died after he came off the runway and hit trees as he landed at the Santa Cilia aerodrome near the northern Spanish city of Jaca.

Emergency responders received an alert around 4pm saying he was conscious and complaining of neck pain.
