A Met Police officer is facing the sack after appearing on Nigeria’s Big Brother without permission from the force’s bosses.

Khafi Kareem, 29, was previously hand-picked for a picture with Commissioner Cressida Dick as the Met celebrated 100 years of women in the force in November last year.

She joined the African TV show on June 30, despite not receiving permission from Scotland Yard, and has since embarked in a romantic relationship in the house.

Publicity from the reality series shows Khafi, who is from Ekiti, Nigeria, wearing her Met Police uniform amid claims she is a talented dancer and singer.

She is now facing an investigation by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and could be given the sack on her return.

An unnamed colleague accused Khafi of ‘tarnishing the reputation of the force’ by appearing on the reality show.

They told The Sun: ‘She’s a serving British police officer – it’s outrageous. She asked permission to go on the show but, when her request was refused, she went anyway.’

Khafi worked part-time as a special constable for four years before becoming a police constable at a Lambeth station in 2015.

She speaks French, Italian and her native Yoruba and worked as both a translator and spotter for a female genital mutilation team on the look out for possible victims at airports.

In March, she was invited to the West End premier of Captain Marvel alongside Deputy Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi.

According to Africa Magic, the television channel which broadcasts Big Brother Naija, Khafi decided to join the show so that she could do ‘societal good’.

A post on the website reads: ‘Police officer Khafi Kareem believes that you can have it all if you believe in yourself.

‘She is not only hoping to win the prize money but she wants the exposure that being in Big Brother Naija House brings so that she can do societal good.

‘What people don’t know about her is that she is secretly talented in spoken word, singing and dancing. She is an Ekiti native who resides in London.’

When asked what she’d do with the 30 million naira (£68,000) prize money, Khafi, who writes a travel blog, said she would ‘hire a film crew and host a travel show going to every state in Nigeria’.

She also added that she would also invest in charitable causes.

Since starting the show, Khafi has formed a romance with fellow contestant Ekpata Gedoni, a businessman, 31.

Nigerian news sites have shared videos of the pair beneath the bed sheets, claiming that they were ‘moving their bodies in ecstasy’.

One article said the couple had become intimate three times in the house already, even adding: ‘Pregnancy can occur since the housemates still have about 70 days left in the house’.

The Met confirmed that Khafi was granted unpaid leave for an ‘unrelated reason’ and that her request to take part in the programme was denied.

A spokesman said: ‘A PC, attached to the Met’s transformation command, requested permission to take part in a reality television entertainment show in Nigeria. Permission was not given.

‘The Met is aware that the officer has since appeared on the show without authority.

‘The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and will be carrying out an investigation into the circumstances.

‘The Met does not support the officer’s appearance nor does she represent the Met whilst appearing on the show.’

If Khafi is found to have breached police standards of professional behaviour she could face misconduct proceedings, the spokesperson said.
