Brexiteer Peter Bone brilliantly mocks ex-Tory MPs after vote – ‘Not colleagues anymore!’

Mr Bone appeared on BBC Newsnight on Tuesday following the mass purge which saw nearly two dozens Conservative MPs get booted from the party. He said: “Why on earth colleagues have gone and supported Jeremy Corbyn I don’t understand. “Well they’re not colleagues anymore I suppose.”

The MP for Wellingborough stated he was confused as to why his ex-colleagues had not supported the Prime Minister after his victory in the leadership race.

He added: “He got two thirds of the members supporting him.

“We saw 21 Conservative MPs vote against him.”

The MPs, including former chancellor Philip Hammond, received the brunt of Mr Johnson’s revenge after they voted against him in yesterday’s successful bid to block a no deal Brexit.

According to the Financial Times, a source said: “Tonight’s decisive result is the first step in a process to avert an undemocratic and damaging No Deal.

“No10 have responded by removing the whip from two former chancellors, a former lord chancellor and Winston Churchill’s grandson.

The Government was defeated by a margin of 328 to 301 votes – a majority of 27 – in what was a major victory by Remain rebels over the under-pressure Government.

The results mean the Conservatives have now been reduced into a minority party.

Mr Bone told BBC Newsnight focus needed to be on Mr Johnson and the Government.

This followed reports of the Prime Minister’s political aide shouting at Jeremy Corbyn in a Westminster corridor after yesterday’s vote.

Dominic Cummings reportedly goaded the Labour leader into voting for a general election.

Mr Bone commented: “This is not about Dominic Cummings.

“It is about Boris Johnson and the Government.”

Earlier today Mr Bone snapped at Sky’s Kay Burley after she made an “outrageous slur” against Mr Johnson.

Ms Burley claimed the Prime Minister was “economical with actualities” which launched Mr Bone into a fiery defence.

The two were seen debating the October 14 date put forward by Mr Johnson for a general election.

The outbursts arose after Mr Bone questioned Ms Burley over her insinuation the Prime Minister would set a date with the intention of changing it.

He snapped: “You are wrong.

“I trust the Prime Minister but you clearly don’t.”

The Sky News host spat back: “The Prime Minister has been known to be economical with the actualities previously.

“It’s true and he has been sacked for it.”

Mr Bone retorted: “That is outrageous.”

The Conservative MP added he didn’t believe Labour wanted a general election immediately because they would be aware that they would fail to win.

He told Ms Burley: “I think they don’t want to go to the country because they know they will lose.

“They have been calling for it and I’m saying go for it.

“But the reason they don’t want to go for one at the moment is because they think they are going to lose.”
