Brexiteer makes chilling threat to Corbyn over general election – ‘No excuses now’
The staunch Brexiteer was speaking on Newsnight on Tuesday, after Parliament had blocked Boris Johnson’s plan to fast track his Brexit deal through the House of Commons in time for next week’s October 31 deadline. Earlier on Tuesday the Prime Minister achieved a stunning success in getting his Brexit deal passed by Parliament. MPs voted 329 to 299 in favour of the Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB), giving the the Prime Minister a convincing majority of 30.
However, MPs rejected the Government’s plan to push through Brexit legislation in three days to ensure the UK leaves the EU on October 31, by 322 to 308.
Former Tory cabinet ministers Philip Hammond and Rory Stewart joined with Labour to inflict the defeat on the Government, arguing they needed more time to scrutinise the details of the bill.
This defeat means that Brexit could be potentially delayed again until the end of January.
The Prime Minister said he would talk to EU leaders and urge them not to grant a prolonged extension.
An unnamed No 10 source has indicated that if Brexit is delayed, a general election will have to follow.
According to the Press Association the source said: “Parliament and Corbyn have repeatedly voted for delay.
“On Saturday, parliament asked for a delay until January and, today, parliament blew its last chance.
“If parliament’s delay is agreed by Brussels, then the only way the country can move on is with an election.

Labour meltdown: Corbyn in desperate plea to MPs who refuse to back
“This Parliament is broken.
“The public will have to choose whether they want to get Brexit done with Boris or whether they want to spend 2020 having two referendums on Brexit and Scotland with Corbyn.”
This message was reinforced tonight by the Tory MP for
North West Leicestershire.
Speaking on BBC Newsnight, Mr Bridgen started by praising Mr Johnson for getting a new deal, before castigating Mr Corbyn and Parliament for refusing to get Brexit done.

Brexit unity at last! How Boris FINALLY united the Tories on Europe
Has Verhofstadt just let slip the EU’s secret Brexit extension plan?
He told Emily Maitlis that ”Boris Johnson has excelled himself”.
Mr Bridgen added: “He’s confounded all his critics and come back with a deal.
“It’s got through Parliament, but we haven”t got a majority to get it through unamended.
“And that’s no good for the EU either.”
In a clear warning to Mr Corbyn, Mr Bridgen continued: “I think we’ll get a three month extension and there are no excuses now for Jeremy Corbyn not to give us that general election.”
Asked by Ms Maitlis whether it mattered to him that the Prime Minister was unable to deliver on his promise to leave the EU by the end of the month, he replied: “Everyone will have seen how Boris Johnson has tried to get Brexit across the line on October 31.
“That was ruled out tonight.
“We’re going to have to have an extension.
“It does matter to me because once again this Parliament has let down the people.”
