Brexiteer comedian warns Remainers ‘Project Fear’ has now backfired amid no deal threat

Comedian and Brexiteer Geoff Norcott has claimed that Remainers who portrayed a dire picture of Britain after the historic 2016 referendum may now struggle to convince people of potential problems with a no deal Brexit. Mr Norcott likened Remainers who predicted “apocalyptic” levels of disruptions to the ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ fable. He added that Britons may just assume that fears and condemnation of a no deal Brexit are simply “another chapter of Project Fear.”

While speaking on BBC’s Politics Live the host asked Mr Norcott if he was worried about a no deal Brexit.

He said: “It is interesting, if someone said to me do you want the financial disruption of a no deal Brexit I would say no I don’t.

“But if someone said to me do you sort of want to see what would happen if it happened, I would say yes I kind of do.”

Mr Norcott and the BBC panel guests began to laugh as he went on to explain the reasoning for his answer.

He added: “I do want to see that, I want to know on one level if the apocalypse we have been sold is true or not.

“Now that is not necessarily a valid political reason for it to happen.

“But I would rather that a deal is reached with the EU.

“But I think if the original Project Fear analysis would have been a bit more sober things would be different.

“It is almost like ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’.

There are members of the public who have seen that the economy is in reasonable nick since the Leave vote.

“They are now wondering is this just another chapter of Project Fear.”

In addition to warnings around a no deal Brexit, Remainer MPs have raged against proroguing Parliament to force it through.

Philip Hammond has remained vocal that he would oppose a no deal Brexit and the possibility of proroguing Parliament to force it on MPs.

Mr Hammond is widely expected to lose his position as Chancellor in the next cabinet with Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, the bookies favourite to become his replacement.

The Chancellor said: “The idea that elected Members of Parliament will be locked out of their place of work because they might do their job is truly shocking.”

He also said suspending Parliament could cause a constitutional crisis and that MPs were “dead-set against” a no deal.
