BREXIT SACRIFICE: No-deal bumps ‘NOTHING’ compared to World War 2 bravery says Widdecombe
Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party has continued to go from strength to strength according to European election poll predictions. Former Tory MP and MEP candidate Ann Widdecombe argued a no deal Brexit should still be considered while also admitting that there may be “bumps along the road.” She insisted it was nothing compared to the price generations had to pay for freedom in World War 2.
Ms Widdecombe said: “It is as nothing compared to the sacrifice we asked a previous generation to make in order to ensure Britain’s freedom.
“Now I am not joking, when I say this, let me finish.
“My granny was bombed out in Plymouth just over there.
“People lost sons and husbands and fathers and they did this because they wanted freedom.”
The Brexit Party is currently expected to secure an estimated 30 percent of votes in the upcoming elections while the Conservatives have fallen drastically to 11 percent.
The party also recently announced its Brexit Party MEP candidate for the upcoming Peterborough by-election.
Conservative businessman Mike Greene will stand for Mr Farage’s grassroots eurosceptic party, in a bid to win a seat in the House of Commons at its first attempt on June 6.
Mr Greene, who is a former trustee of Peterborough cathedral, has amassed a fortune in his career and appeared on the Channel 4 series ‘The Secret Millionaire’ in 2011.
The 54-year-old, who voted Tory all his life, has condemned the Government’s handling of Brexit and insisted the UK needs to have “control of our laws, our borders, our trade in a democratic way”.
He wrote on Twitter: “I am proud to be taking on the challenge of standing for the Brexit Party and rebuilding trust in democracy.”
