The caller, Derek from Southhampton insisted the UK was a democracy that made a clear decision on leaving the European Union with the Brexit vote. During a call into the Jeremy Vine show, Derek insisted Remainers needed to stop plotting against the initial democratic vote. The caller also accused host, Jeremy Vine, of attempting to use the coronavirus crisis as a reason to delay Brexit.
He said: “I think we should stop discussing this Brexit extension.
“I think this is a democratic country and I think it was a democratic decision to come out of the EU.
“All the people using roundabout ways to try and stop it should stop doing so.
“We simply have enough problems right now.”
Mr Vine then voiced the concerns of Remainers and their hopes regarding stopping Brexit.
He said: “I have heard it said that because of coronavirus, Brexit is operating as a distraction.
“They are saying we could just pretend the whole thing didn’t happen and try to stay in the EU.”
The caller then accused Mr Vine of trying to do this and being a Remainer.
The caller said: “That is what you are trying to do and what other people like you are trying to do.
“You should stop doing it, we made a democratic decision to come out, that is the end of it.”
While laughing, Mr Vine said for those that wanted to stay in the EU, using the coronavirus as a reason may be an employed tactic.
The caller snapped and insisted the UK was a democracy and insisted a decision had already been made on whether the UK would be a member of the EU.
