Brexit Party MEP unveils key mistake Number 10 made causing massive Brexit delay

Brexit Party MEP Belinda de Lucy insisted the British Government committed a mistake in the early stages of the Brexit process which have now increased the need for a no deal. Ms de Lucy insisted former prime minister Theresa May should have made clear the UK was ready to quit the European Union without a formal arrangement to push the bloc into striking a deal. Speaking to RT UK, the Brexit Party MEP said: “We could have had a good deal if we had had a good negotiating team three years ago to have prepared for no deal.

The only way the EU was ever going to buckle and allow us to flourish and succeed after Brexit is if we had said, ‘no, we can viably walk away and that will be an option. But if you’d like to come to us with a deal, we’d be open to it.’

“We should have done that three years ago.”

Ms de Lucy continued: “Our politicians said no, they sent a useless team out there, they negotiated a terrible deal and they brought it back saying, ‘terrible deal or no Brexit.’

“That’s not acceptable.”

Boris Johnson maintained he is prepared to take Britain out of the EU without a deal should he reach an agreement with Brussels by October 31.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down Mr Johnson’s decision to shut down Parliament and paved the way to have MPs return to Westminster – sparking concerns among Brexiteers that Parliament may interfere to delay the Brexit deadline into next year.

Before prorogation, MPs passed the Benn Act which would force the Prime Minister to request a new extension until January 2020 to Brussels.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage offered his support to Mr Johnson proposing an electoral alliance to ensure a pro-Brexit majority takes control of the Commons should the Prime Minister succeed in triggering a general election.

Mr Johnson rejected the offer on several occasions and Ms de Lucy suggested the Tory leaders is concerned about “dirtying his hands” by accepting the help of Mr Farage and his prospective candidates.

The Brexit Party MEP continued: “He needs to keep on board all the Remainer moderate Tories and he thinks he will dirty his hands a bit by going towards our party – which I think is a huge insult to Leave voters.

“The Tory Party and the Labour Party have held Brexit voters with such disdain, they have treated us incredibly badly over three years and so Boris insulting our party like that is a big mistake.

“It’s not the right time to insult leave voters. Nigel is the only man who gave us a political home. He is the only man who stood up for the Brexit vote so far.”

The Prime Minister cut short his trip to the UN General Assembly in New York to return to London after Parliament was recalled by Commons speaker John Bercow in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling against the Government.

The court found Mr Johnson and his Cabinet were wrong to shut down Parliament and rendered the decision “void” thus spurring the return of MPs to their seats.

In the face of intense criticism, the Prime Minister has remained defiant, refusing to bow from pressure over his proroguing decision and Brexit strategy.

Speaking before he left New York to return to London, he said: “We in the UK will not be deterred from delivering the will of the British people.

“I strongly disagree with this decision of the Supreme Court. I have the utmost respect for our judiciary but I don’t think this was the right decision.

“I think that prorogation has been used for centuries without this kind of challenge.”
