Brexit Party MEP reveals why she resigned as Nigel Farage launched furious attack
Brexit Party MEPs have quit to support Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the run-up to the general election on December 12 including Jacob Rees-Mogg’s sister Annunziata. Lance Forman and John Longworth have also left the party. Lucy Harris explained it is because her “heart is in” Brexit that she decided to tactifully leave the party less than two weeks before the election.
Speaking to LBC, Ms Harris said: “How the constitution works is that there are two main parties who can win.
“It is either Labour or the Tory Party.
“The unfortunate position we find ourselves in is if you vote for Labour it will lead to a second referendum and potentially cancelling Brexit altogether.
“Whereas if you vote for the Tory Party they are offering a Brexit.
“I think this is a tactical thing to do because you’re actually voting to make sure the vote you cast back in 2016 is upheld.
“But I totally get why a lot of Brexit Party supporters might feel let down and for me, it was a really, really hard decision to make.
“I’ve been campaigning for Brexit for three years.
“It’s been on my mind for three years.
“It’s made relationships, it’s broken relationships – I’ve lived and breathed Brexit.
“For me this is the only chance to save it.”
Ms Fogarty asked: “But for those people listening just to be to clear, none of you is a candidate but the truth is you are publicly in a very high profile way declaring, ‘don’t vote for Brexit Party candidates, vote for Tory candidates’. That’s quite a move.”
Ms Harris added: “I don’t say it with any maliciousness or any negativity, when I say it, I say it in a purely tactical way of making sure the Tories have a majority to deliver Brexit.”
