Brexit BETRAYAL: May makes ‘grave mistake’ sacked Williamson says in STUNNING attack

In a blistering attack on the Prime Minister, Mr Williamson says Mrs May must ditch her dreaded Brexit plan as support for it from within the party dwindles. Mr Williamson was controversially sacked as Defence Minister following after a security leak into the Huawei 5G plan made its way to the Daily Telegraph. According to the Daily Mail, Mr Williamson said Mrs May had betrayed her colleagues by trying to gain support from Labour for her Brexit deal.

He called the cross-party negotiations a “grave mistake” and “naive”.

In his first comment on Brexit since his sacking, Mr Williamson said: “MPs need to deliver the referendum result and honour our promise to the electorate in 2017.

“It is tempting to think the easiest way to achieve this is to sit across the table from the Labour Party, do a deal and deliver Brexit. It sounds so simple and so reasonable, but it is destined to fail.

“Even if Labour do a deal, break bread with the Prime Minister and announce that both parties have reached an agreement, it can only ever end in tears.”

Mr Williamson added: “The Conservative Party needs to be the party that delivers on its promises.

“If it is able to do this, it will flourish and be the party that voters know they can trust. We need to accept that these talks with Labour are fruitless and that not only will they not deliver the Brexit that people voted for, they are a betrayal of the direct instructions the people gave us in 2016 and 2017.

“We are now at a crossroads and it is imperative the Prime Minister makes the right choice.”

Mrs May ditched Mr Williamson on May 2 after believing he was responsible for the leaked information.

He vehemently denies the allegations made against him.

The claims arose after an inquiry by Cabinet Secretary Sir Mark Sedwill was launched following information from secret discussions about Chinese telecoms firm Huawei’s involvement in the development of the UK’s 5G mobile network.

In the weeks before his sacking, it emerged that Britain would allow Huawei a restricted role in building parts of its 5G network, seeking a middle way in a bitter dispute between the United States and China over the next generation of communications technology.

Mr Williamson remains a Conservative MP.
