Brentwood: Teenager charged with murdering two boys in Essex

A teenager has been charged with murdering two boys during a disturbance in Essex.

Police officers were called to reports three people were injured in Regency Court, Brentwood, at around 1.30am last Sunday.

Two teenagers later died, while the third person was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Frankie Watson, 19, of Baker Street, Orsett, has been remanded to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today.

He is charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

It comes after two other men, including a 20-year-old from Grays and a 21-year-old from South Ockendon, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

They have been released on bail to 19 November.

A 40-year-old man from Brentwood was also released under investigation.

Following the incident on Sunday, chief inspector Mark Barber said: “There will continue to be a highly visible police presence in Brentwood this morning and indeed throughout the day.

“I am acutely aware that this incident will shock many without the community.

“My officers will be there throughout the day – they will be there to reassure you and keep you safe.

“If you have any concerns or information on the incident then, please, do not hesitate to come forward and speak to them.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Clarkson, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, also said at the weekend: “This incident has required an immediate and a large-scale response and officers and investigators have worked through the night to piece together what happened in the lead up to this tragic incident.”
