Boy killed in 'deliberate' hit and run named as Harley Watson, 12

The 12-year-old boy killed in a hit and run in Essex last night has been named as Harley Watson.

Police have arrested a 51-year-old on suspicion of murder, six counts of attempted murder and one of causing death by dangerous driving.

Harley died in hospital shortly after being hit in Loughton, Essex Police said.

Four boys, aged 15, 13, and 12, and a girl, 16, were injured along with a woman, 23, in the incident yesterday at 3.20pm near Debden Park High School.

Police said yesterday that none of the other injuries are believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Glover was also arrested on suspicion of six offences of causing serious injury by driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and driving without insurance.

Debden Park High School’s Executive Headteacher Christian Cavanagh said: ‘On behalf of the School and the Trust we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of this young man.

‘A young life so tragically lost.’

Mr Cavanagh continued: ‘This young man had made his mark on the school and was liked and loved by staff and students.

‘We will consult with the family and our school community to decide how best to commemorate his life.’
