Boy in serious condition after falling ill from 'unknown substance' at school

A group of three teenage boys have been arrested after a student fell unwell at school and was taken to hospital.

North Yorkshire Police said they are investigating if the boy took ill after ingesting an ‘unknown substance’.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The incident happened at Caedmon College in Whitby yesterday, with police receiving a report at around 12.10pm.

The three teenagers who were arrested in connection with the investigation have all since been released on police bail.

Officers urged people to respect the privacy of the student by not sharing footage of the incident on social media.

A police statement said: ‘An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the possibility of an unknown substance having been ingested.’

They asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101, or anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, and quote the reference number 12230045465.
