Boy, 9, who loved to dance has leg amputated after being hit by motorbike
A school boy who loved to dance has lost part of his leg in a horror crash.
Max Clark, nine, is ‘doing really well’ after his lower leg was removed when a motorbike crashing into him in in Hull, on Monday. A man has been arrested following the incident.
Mum Kirsty said he is ‘still our little Max’ after his surgery, adding: ‘It could have been worse.’
The 31-year-old said her keen gymnast son is determined to dance again despite the incident, which happened in Rosmead Park, near Southcoates Lane, when the family ventured outdoors for the first time since lockdown began.
She explained: ‘He is able to get himself from his bed to his wheelchair and obviously he has had half of his leg amputated just below the knee.

‘He understands it is going to take some time to be able to do the things he used to do but he is taking it as well as we could have hoped for.’
Max was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary after he was hit within 15 minutes of arriving at the park on bank holiday Monday.
Kirsty and partner Paddy, 32, from Preston, decided to take their four children there to meet friends.
It was the first time the family had left the home since March 21 due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
Hours after the collision took place, Jerome Cawkwell, 24 and from Hull, was arrested and later charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Kirsty said: ‘It’s really hard. We were all there. We were all in the same few metres of space and our six-year-old daughter Molly saw everything so she is going to need some kind of help down the line.
‘The only way I can describe it is like watching a film you can’t turn off at the time. Now I know he is okay that is the main thing.’
She added: ‘We were told we were going to get all the help. He is a really keen gymnast and he dances as well. All those things are going to be possible but not for a while.
‘We are pulling together as a family but we are okay. It could be worse. We have got to keep positive for him.’
The family have set up a GoFundMe page which labels Max a ‘warrior’, an ‘amazing gymnast and dancer and a wonderful young man, well loved by everyone who knows him.’
Thanking those who pledged money to aid Max’s recovery, Kirsty said: ‘My friend was reading out a few names and most are complete strangers which is absolutely overwhelming.
‘I also want to give my gratitude to Hull Royal Infirmary’s Acorn Ward who were absolutely fantastic.’
Cawkwell, 24, of Cambridge Grove, east Hull, appeared at Hull Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Alongside causing serious injury by dangerous driving, he is charged with failing to stop, driving without a licence, using a vehicle without insurance and using a vehicle not in efficient working order.
He indicated guilty pleas to the charges before being given conditional bail.
He will appear at Hull Crown Court on June 24.
