Boy, 7, attacked by dog in pub garden as couple ‘restrain pet’

A seven-year-old boy has been seriously hurt in a brutal dog attack in pub beer garden. The large canine bit the child on the head as he was playing in the outside area of the Crows Nest Inn in Swanage, Dorset. A man and a woman, thought to be the owners, brought the dog under control before making a quick exit.

They had fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services and left no contact details.

An air ambulance, which had to land in a nearby field, took the boy to hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries, none of which are life changing or threatening.

Authorities issued an image of the pair and have launched an investigation.

PC Alistair James, of Purbeck police, said: “This was understandably a distressing incident for the young boy involved and his family and we hope he makes a full recovery from his injury.

“We are conducting enquiries into this matter and have obtained an image of a man and woman with the dog that was believed to be involved.

“We are keen to speak to these people so we can take their account of what happened.

“I would urge anyone with information relating to their identity to please come forward. I would also ask the man and woman pictured to please do the right thing and come forward.

“I would also like to hear from any witnesses to the incident who have not already spoken to police.”

The picture the police have released shows a couple, in their 40s or 50s, restraining the dog.

The man has short grey hair and was wearing black-rimmed glasses. The woman had shoulder-length brown hair and appeared to be wearing a dark cardigan or jumper, over a floral blouse.

The dog, which had brown shaggy fur with white flecks, is thought to be a German Wirehaired Pointing or an Italian Spinone breed.

The attack took place around 5.10pm on Tuesday, May 2.
