Boy, 6, dies from serious head injuries as police arrest man and woman

A man and a woman are being quizzed over the death of a boy, six, who suffered serious head injuries at home in Solihull on Tuesday afternoon.

West Midlands Police were called to Cranmore Road, in Shirley, at around 3pm on Tuesday, where they found the injured child. He was then rushed to hospital but later died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The man, 27, and woman, 31, were taken in for questioning shortly after. Officers have not said what the pair have been arrested for.

A crime scene still remains in place outside the semi-detached home, and flowers and a blue toy car have been placed for the boy in the front garden.

Neighbours living near the scene told of their shock at the boy’s death. It is understood he was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital but doctors could do nothing to save him.

One resident said: ‘The police have been here for a few days and rumours were going around that the little kid had died.

‘We were all so worried about him. It’s so sad. He was a beautiful boy – always laughing and smiling. It’s so, so sad. There’s always something going on around here.’

Officers have said a post-mortem will take place in due course, while an investigation has been launched into how the boy got his injuries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
