Boy, 15, charged after teacher stabbed in school corridor

A 15-year-old boy has been charged after a maths teacher was stabbed in a school corridor.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named, has been charged with section 18 attempted wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article.

The teacher, Jamie Sansom, was stabbed at Tewkesbury Academy on Monday.

The suspect was arrested around two hours after the incident, which led to the school being locked down for several hours.

He’s since been discharged from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and he’s now recovering well – and hoping to return to the classroom before the end of the summer term.

Mr Sansom also said speculation he was intervening in a fight between students was ‘simply not true’.

Gloucestershire Police said the boy will remain in custody tonight and will appear at Cheltenham magistrates court on Wednesday.

The school reopened on Tuesday following ‘careful assessment and consultation with the police’.

A Tewkesbury Academy spokesman said: ‘We feel it is important for our students to be able to return to a sense of normality in their school, where we will be providing a range of additional mental and emotional support for students and staff.’
