The Government made the announcement today after lengthy debates over allowing the Chinese firm access to Britain’s network.

Huawei will be allowed to play a limited role in the UK’s 5G network, but will be banned from operating in sensitive sites such as nuclear and military facilities.

The company’s share of the market will be capped at 35%.

Opponents of the plan feared allowing the Chinese tech company to build the network would be handing control of infrastructure to Beijing.

There were also fears regardng Huawei’s close links to the Chinese Government.

Concerns were raised that the equipment could be used for espionage, despite Huawei’s denial of the accustaions. 

The debate has heightened tensions with the US and Donald Trump.

Mr Johnon was warned by the US not to approve Huawei due to security worries.

US Secrtary of state Mike Pompeo described the choice facing the National Security Council as “momentous”.
