Boris surges in support as voters insist ‘courageous’ PM is ‘only man’ to stand up to EU
Boris Johnson last week presented his proposals for new changes to the Brexit withdrawal agreement but was warned his plan cannot be considered as a basis for a new deal by the European Union. Despite the negative tones in Brussels, the Prime Minister received the backing of London voters who insist he is the “only one” capable of maintaining a hard stance with the bloc. Speaking to Channel 4 News, a West London voter said: “This is the only man who has put his foot down and he’ll stick to his ground.
“I don’t think I’d trust anybody else, they’d give in. I’m a Boris man all the way.”
Another voter said Mr Johnson has proved to be a “courageous” man for his strategy and it will be “amazing” should he succeed in delivering Brexit as he pledged.
Meanwhile, a woman voter said: “I think he is quite courageous.
“I think if he manages to pull it off, it’ll be amazing.”

The Prime Minister also secured good reviews from his constituents in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, with voters claiming he is “the right person for the job.”
One man told Sky News: “I think he’s doing alright.
“I voted for him at the last election and then I’d probably do it again this year.”
A local woman from Uxbridge said: “I do believe he is the right person for the job.

“I just think he has an impossible situation on his hands. He’s never going to please everyone.
“He’s got to do the best that he possibly can and if the people want to leave, then that’s what he’s got to try and do.”
Another man, who said he backed Remain in the 2016 referendum, admitted the Prime Minister is “trying his best” to deliver on the result of the poll.
He said: “I’m not a big fan but let’s see what happens.

“I think he’s trying his best to get Brexit done – whether it should be done is a different question.”
Mr Johnson insisted he wanted to strike a deal with the EU that is acceptable to both sides as he claimed that his new proposals commanded the support of MPs.
A senior Number 10 source said: “This is the chance to get a deal done: a deal that is backed by parliamentarians and a deal which involves compromise on all sides.
“The UK has made a big, important offer but it’s time for the Commission to show a willingness to compromise too. If not the UK will leave with no deal.
“The surrender act and its authors are undermining negotiations, but if EU leaders are betting that it will prevent no-deal, that would be a historic misunderstanding.”
