Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus: Prime Minister to self-isolate in No10
The Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 55, was showing mild symptoms yesterday – a day after he answered at the prime minister’s weekly question-and-answer session in the chamber of the House of Commons. The test was carried out in Number 10 on Thursday. He is now self-isolating at Number 10 but insisted he will still lead the government’s response to the outbreak.
He tweeted: “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.
“I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.”
If the Tory leader is forced to step down from his duties, he will be replaced by Dominic Raab.
A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty.
“The test was carried out in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive.
“In keeping with the guidance, the Prime Minister is self-isolating in Downing Street.
“He is continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus.”
