Boris Johnson last updated the nation on September 22, when he placed new lockdown restrictions on the country. The Prime Minister announced the UK had reached a “perilous turning point” as he laid out the new rules which could be in place for up to six months. Mr Johnson issued a stark warning that “significantly greater restrictions” would be implemented if necessary.
When is Boris’s next speech?
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Government has come under fire for allegedly leaving Parliament in the ark during the covid crisis.
But today a spokesman for the PM said Mr Johnson will work with parliament wherever possible to keep them updated on the latest COVID-19 data and any plans to restrict the spread of the virus.
They said: “We will continue to keep parliament updated on the latest data and scientific advice on the virus and work in advance with parliamentary colleagues, wherever that is possible.”
Boris Johnson was expected to give an update on when he will next address the nation today, however as yet no details have been made available.
Express.co.uk will update this page as soon as it is known when the Prime Minister will next give a speech.
What’s the latest news on the coronavirus crisis?
Speaking in the House for Commons last week, the Prime Minister said: “We always knew that while we might’ve driven the virus into retreat, the prospect of a second wave was real.
“I’m sorry to say that, as in Spain and France, and many other countries we’ve reached a perilous turning point.”
Mr Johnson said the new rules have been “carefully judged” to achieve the maximum reduction in infection rates while causing “minimum damage to lives and livelihoods”.
He assured people that this was “by no means a return to the full lockdown of March” as no general instructions to stay at home were issued.
Businesses, schools, colleges and universities will all remain open for the time being.
It comes as hospital admissions for coronavirus doubled in recent weeks, with fears the virus will coincide with the winter flu season and overwhelm the NHS.
What are the new rules?
Mr Johnson said the new measures will remain in place for months to come.
He told MPs: “We will spare no effort in developing vaccines, treatments, new forms of mass testing but unless we have palpably made progress we should assume that the restrictions that I have announced will remain in place for perhaps six months.”
Mr Johnson also said police and local authorities would be given extra funding to help monitor the situation.
The option to draw military support in aid of enforcing restrictions has also been proposed.

Could there be another lockdown?
While the Prime Minister is very keen to avoid another lockdown, Mr Johnson refuses to rule one out as coronavirus cases have significantly increased.
However, some experts think stronger measures and another lockdown could well be on the cards.
Professor John Edmunds from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said the curfew on hospital venues will likely have a “trivial” effect.
Speaking personally, he told the BBC: “I suspect we will see very stringent measures coming in place throughout the UK at some point, but it will be too late again.”
