Boris Johnson makes himself comfortable as he settles into life as PM

Boris Johnson is really digging being Prime Minister.

A series of pictures showed him looking comfortable on Wednesday after he took over.

In one image Mr Johnson is shown with his feet up on the desk in his temporary office inside Admiralty House, London, minutes before seeing the Queen and heading to Downing Street.

In another snap he’s seen arriving in the Cabinet Room in Number 10.

No-one could blame him for looking so confident after polls showed the Tories had been boosted by a ‘Boris bounce’ after his election.

The Conservatives have gained ten points to stand at 30%, a survey by Deltapoll for the Mail on Sunday showed.

That puts them five points ahead of Labour at 25%, with the Liberal Democrats on 18% and the Brexit Party on 14%.

If Labour was to drop Jeremy Corbyn as leader, the poll says the party would shoot into the lead at 34%, with the Tories on 28%, the Brexit Party on 14% and the Lib Dems on 13%.

But these are just polls and things could change, especially considering Brexit is on the horizon.

In the meantime Mr Johnson has promised a staggering £3.6 billion investment for left-behind towns.

He visited Manchester yesterday to pledge funding for a new rail link between the city and Leeds.

Mr Johnson also promised action on housing and crime.

He said: ‘I want to be the PM who does with Northern Powerhouse Rail what we did with Crossrail in London.

‘And today I am going to deliver on my commitment to that vision with a pledge to fund the Leeds to Manchester route.

‘It will be up to local people and us to come to an agreement on the exact proposal they want – but I have tasked officials to accelerate their work on these plans so that we are ready to do a deal in the autumn.’
