Boris Johnson insists Tories will deliver 'Blue Peter deal' Brexit

Boris Johnson has continued to insist that voting Conservative is the ‘only way’ to ensure Brexit in his first major speech of the election campaign.

Speaking at the LEVC factory in Coventry, the Prime Minister stated that a vote for ‘any other party’ could cause a coalition between Labour and the SNP.

He claimed this put the country at risk of ‘two referendums’ next year – despite Jeremy Corbyn stating that Labour would not support a vote on Scottish Independence within their first term.

Boris also blamed parliament for preventing Brexit from going ahead, adding: ‘This is a one nation government that is driving the people’s priorities.

‘Whether it is investing in 20,000 police officers, or the biggest ever increase in NHS funding for a generation, or raising the living wage by the biggest amount ever – this is a government that is determined to get on and deliver the priorities of the British people.

‘The thing that’s blocking us at the moment, is that parliament won’t put Brexit through. That is the problem.

‘The reason we need to get Brexit done is because then, the whole country can move forward.’

He added: ‘We must end the paralysis in this parliament. We want next year to be a year of prosperity and growth, not a year with two referendums.’

Elsewhere in his speech, Boris described his withdrawal agreement as a ‘Blue Peter deal’, telling the audience ‘here’s one I made earlier!’

The Prime Minister insisted all he needed to do was ‘add water’ and ‘stir the pot’ to ensure the UK would leave the European Union next year.

He also stated that Corbyn was ‘naive to the point of being dangerous’ for suggesting IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was arrested instead of killed.

The Labour leader had said it was ‘a very good thing’ that al-Baghdadi had been ‘removed from the scene’ but added that putting him on trial would would have been ‘the right thing to do’.

During questions, Boris said: ‘Al-Baghdadi was an absolute diabolical foe of this country, of our liberal values, everything we believe in and support.

‘He was responsible for untold murders. I do not think it realistic to suggest that he could just be apprehended by the police, or anybody, in the circumstances in which he was finally run to ground.

‘It is very important when you look at the threats this country faces that we are realistic about what we need to do to be strong in the face of those threats.

‘I think his (Corbyn’s) approach is naive and it is naive to the point of being dangerous.’
