In a press briefing, the Prime Minister’s spokesman added the Conservative leader remained in “good spirits” and has continued to receive “standard oxygen treatment”.

After Mr Johnson refused to give up working until 10 days after he was diagnosed with coronavirus, the spokesman added the Prime Minister was taking a break from al official duties.

He said: “The PM is not working. We are very clear on that.

“He has asked the First Secretary of State to deputise for him.

“The FSOS will lead any cabinet decision making process.”
