The Prime Minister took aim at Remainer John Bercow during his speech in Manchester as he compared Parliament to a broken laptop, a failing school and a reality TV show. Boris Johnson suggested MPs would be “voted out of the jungle by now” as the British system “seems to be on the blink”. His comments come as he gave the EU his proposals for a Brexit deal which Jean Claude Juncker is due to respond to later today.

Speaking at the conference, Mr Johnson said: “There is one part of the British system that seems to be on the blink. If Parliament were a laptop then the screen would be showing the pizza wheel of doom.

“If Parliament were a school Ofsted would be shutting it down of putting it in special measures.

“If Parliament were a reality TV show then the whole lot of us would have been voted out of the jungle by now. 

“But at least we would have had the consolation of seeing the Speaker being forced to eat a kangaroo testicle.”

Addressing delegates in Manchester the Prime Minister said: “My friends, I am afraid that after three-and-a-half years people are beginning to feel that they are being taken for fools. “They are beginning to suspect that there are forces in this country that simply don’t want Brexit delivered at all. Let’s get Brexit done on October 31 so in 2020 our country can move on.”

“The Government is either going to be negotiating a new deal or working on no-deal — nobody will work on delay.”

“So let’s find a way forward. If there’s a willingness I believe there can be a deal, even at this very late stage.”

Mr Johnson’s jokes continued as he suggested the Conservatives are a European Party.

He said: “Let’s get Brexit done. We can, we must, and we will, even though things have not been made easier by the surrender bill.

“We will work for a deal with our EU friends; but whatever happens we must come out by the end of October.”

The leader added says no deal is not an outcome he wants, but it is an outcome they are ready for.

Mr Johnson’s speech comes as Dominic Raab stands in for the leader at Prime Minister’s Questions.

The Foreign Secretary will go head-to-head with Diana Abott who is replacing Jeremy Corbyn who will also miss the debate.

The shadow Home Secretary will be the first black MP to represent her party at the weekly Commons clash.

Ms Abbott said she was “looking forward” to leading PMQs.
