Boris Johnson baby news: Will Boris Johnson go on paternity leave?

Boris Johnson’s fiancee Carrie Symonds has given birth to a baby boy, the couple have announced this morning. A spokesperson for the Prime Minister said both mother and baby are “doing very well” after the birth in a London hospital earlier today.

The spokeswoman said: “The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning.

“Both mother and baby are doing very well.

“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”

Mr Johnson, 55, and Ms Symonds, 32, announced in March that they were expecting a baby in “early summer”, and that they had become engaged at the end of last year.

Will the PM take maternity leave?

Mr Johnson has previously suggested he intends to take paternity leave, although under current circumstances it is not clear if he still intends to.

The Prime Minister is entitled to the same paternity leave as every other father in the country, despite his significangt role.

Currently fathers can get two weeks paternity leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.
