Boris and Carrie share new photo of baby Wilfred meeting midwives

Boris Johnson and his fiancée Carrie Symonds have shared a new photo of their son Wilfred as he nears four months of age.

The trio are shown on a Zoom call with the midwives who helped deliver baby Wilfred at University College London Hospital.

They were speaking from the study of 10 Downing Street in what is the second picture of Wilfred to be made public since his birth on April 29.

The first, showing a closer view of the boy as his mother clutches him, was shared on Ms Symonds’ Instagram page shortly after he was born.

She revealed Wilfred was named after the prime minister’s grandfather, while his first middle name Lawrie was her grandfather’s given name.

His second middle name, Nicholas, was chosen for Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart, two doctors at London St Thomas’ hospital whom Mr Johnson credits with saving his life after he fell ill with coronavirus.

Ms Symonds, 32, captioned the photo: ‘Thank you so, so much to the incredible NHS maternity team at UCLH that looked after us so well.

‘I couldn’t be happier. My heart is full.’

Wilfred’s birth came just two weeks after Mr Johnson was discharged from St Thomas’.

Speaking about his son for the first time in an interview with The Sun in May, the PM was asked if he had ever feared he might not live to see his sixth child.

He said: Well, yes, of course. We’ve all got a lot to live for, a lot to do, and I won’t hide it from you, I was thinking about that, yes.

In an interview with LBC this month he described Wilfred as ‘a wonderful kid, an absolutely wonderful kid’ who gave the family ‘an absolutely wonderful time’.

Mr Johnson added: ‘But for me at any rate it is very, very busy so the concept of paternity leave is not one that I’ve really been able to deal with.’

Asked whether he preferred ‘cuddling him, changing him, feeding him, [or] reading to him’, Mr Johnson replied: ‘All that… it is a very detailed operation and there’s a lot of it, but I’m pretty hands-on.’

The 56-year-old is the fourth prime minister in 170 years to have a baby while in office.

He and his fiancée are the first unmarried couple to officially live together at Number 10.

A spokesperson has said he will take a short period of paternity leave later this year.
