Emerging from 007’s shadow in a pink velvet Tom Ford dinner jacket, the actor was joined by William, Kate, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall on the Albert Hall red carpet.

The Duchess of Cambridge ratcheted up the glamour in a blistering £3,780 gold sequinned gown with cape by Jenny Packham.

Lacking Bond’s customary smoothness, Daniel blurted out: “You look jolly lovely.”

Joined by his No Time To Die colleagues Dame Judi Dench, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Léa Seydoux and Lashana Lynch, the star is quitting after 15 years.

Daniel, 53, said: “This has been a massive part of my life.

“I’m never not going to think about this – it’s been too big a thing in my life.”

Alluded to his frustration that the movie launch had been delayed three times because of Covid, he said: “I genuinely didn’t think we would get here.

“I’m so grateful I got a chance to make one last one and it be this one to finish telling the story.”

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said the hunt for the next 007 had not yet begun.

Tipped names include Venom star Tom Hardy and Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page.

She said: “No hunting. Daniel Craig – I want him to be Bond for as long as possible.

“It’s very difficult, he’s been tremendous. Tonight is about celebrating his achievements, giving him his time.”

Co-writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge said she would not be in favour of a female Bond.

She said: “I think Bond is James Bond. We just need to cook up someone to rival him.”

The Fleabag creator was brought in to finesse the script of the £148million film. Phoebe admitted: “I’m really really excited to see some of it on the screen.”

Among the A-listers on the red carpet was Britain’s US Open Champion Emma Raducanu, 18, looking simply ace in a Christian Dior dress.
