Body found in search for boy, 14, who went missing in lake
A teenager has drowned in a lake in Hertfordshire, police have confirmed.
The 14-year-old got into difficulty in water in Cheshunt last night.
Firefighters and ambulance crews were dispatched after reports the boy ‘had not re-surfaced having been in the water’.
A major search operation involving a helicopter and police divers was launched just before 5pm.
Police have now confirmed a body was found around six hours later.
The boy’s family have been informed ahead of a formal identification process.
A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson said: ‘Following reports of a 14-year-old boy getting into difficulty in North Met Lake, off Cadmore Lane, Cheshunt yesterday , emergency services have sadly recovered a body.’
Police have not disclosed the identity of the victim.
The circumstances around the death are unclear but it comes amid warnings about swimming in lakes and rivers during the heatwave.
