Officers were first called to reports a man had fallen at a car park at around 4.40pm on Sunday, with the body of a woman found at a property later that same afternoon.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene but his death is not thought to be suspicious.
The woman was found dead at around 6.15pm at a house in Bettws, Newport, just three miles north from the car park. Wales Online reports police have linked the two deaths.
Gwent Police say the woman’s death is being treated as suspicious but they aren’t looking for anyone in connection with it.
A police car was parked outside the address this morning, and residents have reported seeing forensics teams in the area on Sunday evening.
A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said: “Officers went to an address in Monnow Way Bettws yesterday, Sunday April 25, at about 6.15pm where a woman was found deceased.
“The death is being treated as suspicious. At this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it, it’s being linked to another death yesterday afternoon.
“At around 4.40pm we also had a call reporting that a man had fallen from a car park in Newport city centre. The man was confirmed dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
