Dramatic photos show the car inside the woman’s rubble-strewn home and the front of a vehicle smashed in after the crash in the Westhoughton area of Bolton. Neighbour Jean Partington described hearing “two terrific bangs”.
She said: “I thought it was a bomb. It was that loud.
“I went to the window and couldn’t see anything because it was dark. I could hear a voice crying out so rang the police.”
Officers were called at about 5.15am on Sunday and along with firefighters and paramedics rushed to the pensioner’s bungalow.
The woman was taken to hospital with “serious leg injuries”.
Police have since described her as being in a “serious but stable condition”.
The horror smash happened at the approach to a mini-roundabout at the Chew Moor Lane junction with Bolton Road.
After crashing through railings outside the woman’s home, the BMW smashed through her front window.
In a Facebook post, the woman’s granddaughter revealed she had been in bed when the car “came through into her lounge”.
She added: “The impact was so severe that the internal walls collapsed on her whilst she was in bed.”

He added: “I saw the car had gone through the window.

“My heart goes out to the woman. I hope she’s going to be okay.”
