Jubilee weekend means most people only have to work three days this week, with Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3, reserved for celebrating the Queen. The shorter working week means that, for two days, people will need to rely on reduced or altogether absent services in some sectors. Public works have adjusted their schedules to deliver vital assistance around the reduced work hours.

When are bin collections this week?

Bin collection times will vary significantly across the UK home nations, regions and councils.

Some services will have already completed their weekly runs, while others tend to concentrate collections on Thursdays or Fridays.

For the bank holiday, councils may opt to postpone or bring forward collection days.

In London, for example, Islington residents won’t have running bin services between June 2 to 3.

Instead, the council has scheduled Thursday’s collections for the next non-bank holiday, Saturday, June 4.

And it has pushed back those due on Friday to Monday, June 6.

The following week will see bin schedules pushed back between June 7 and 11 to one day past the usual collection day.

Bin collection schedules in other London boroughs will remain unchanged for the bank holiday.

Lambeth council states collections “do not change on most bank holidays”.

The same goes for councils further north, such as Newcastle City Council, which states there “can be revisions”.

People should check with their local council website to find precise bin collection timings.

Anyone unsure about which local council handles their bin collection can check with the Government.

Gov.uk has a dedicated bin collections finder that guides people to the correct schedule.

All people have to do is type their postcode into the search bar provided here, and it brings up the relevant website.

Only those living in England and Wales can use the tool.

When is the next bank holiday?

The Jubilee bank holiday marks the last four-day weekend of 2022.

From summer to the end of 2022, there are only three more bank holidays in England.

The summer bank holiday is on Monday, August 29, followed by the Boxing Day bank holiday on December 26 and substitute Christmas Day on December 27.
