The dog, called Lola, died in the arms of its owner, who has been left heartbroken. The owner, a Stockton woman, claims she was out walking with her pets in Teeside when the attack occurred. Elisabeth Lavelle was walking her two dogs, Lola and Fleur, on December 18 near her home when the incident happened.

The brutal attack allegedly took place in the Roseworth area of Stockton when she claims one of her dogs was mauled by the off-leash Alsatians.

She is now encouraging others to report dog attacks to stop similar brutal events from happening.

Ms Lavelle claimed a couple pulled up in a van with five Alsatian type dogs before letting the dogs off their leads.

After the dogs were let off their leashes Ms Lavelle claims one of them ran up and began to attack her dog Lola.

The incident is reported to have happened on Rochester Road in Stockton.

The owner claims one of the off-leash dogs ran up to Lola and launched a savage attack on the 13-year-old dog.

Ms Lavelle then claimed that two of the other dogs then joined in the attack leaving Lola “mangled” and unable to recover.

The devastated Stockton woman then claimed the owners of the dogs involved offered no help or apology for the attack.

Speaking to Teesside Live, she said: “One just ran over to her and put her on her back and started attacking her and then two others ran over and did the same.

“I started to run and try to get her but the other owners didn’t do anything they just stood back.

“They had no control of the dogs at all.

“She was mangled and died in my arms.”

Ms Lavelle then said she rang Cleveland Police and made a report about the incident.

She also informed the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) about the attack.

She is now encouraging people to report attacks in an effort to stop similar dog deaths, she said: “It’s an accident waiting to happen what if those dogs attack a child next.

“I want to raise awareness that you should report every incident when a dog attacks.

“If other people report these incidents it’s more evidence because it’s my word against theirs at the minute.

“Lola died in my arms and I don’t want any other dog owner to go through what I have.”

Teesside police said they will implement more patrols in this area.

The spokeswoman added: “The officer has also contacted personally the lady who reported, expressing his sincere sympathy at what happened to her dog. He explained that incidents of dogs attacking other dogs, that are not assistance dogs, are not an offence that police or any other prosecuting agency can take action on.

“Since in the original reports, there was also no mention of any person being injured or made to feel at risk of being injured in the incident this did not appear to meet the criteria of a Dog being Dangerously Out of Control therefore it could not be crimes as such.

“As an emotive subject as this is, the police must remain impartial and objective and present to the CPS only matters that have a realistic prospect of a successful prosecution. In addition, there were no independent witnesses or CCTV/phone footage therefore no criminal offences were identified in this case.

“This does appear to be a tragic one-off incident and we will request the area’s designated officer to incorporate these dog walking areas in their patrols for reassurance.”
