‘Beautiful secluded’ UK beach locals are desperate to keep a secret

Seaside towns and beach holidays are popular destinations for Brits looking to holiday in this country in the summer months. Since the pandemic, outbound tourism remains down 23 per cent compared to its peak, going from 93.1 million trips in 2019 to 71.8 million in 2022. But with tourists on the hunt for the best UK beaches, people in one village want to keep their hidden gem a secret.

Traeth Mawr, located near the village of Aberffraw, Anglesey is regarded as one of the best beaches in North Wales. 

But, with the nearest parking spot being half a mile away either way, the beach is secluded and private and those familiar ith the beach are keen to keep it that way. 

One Tripadvisor user said: “Don’t go there. We want to keep it all to ourselves! One of the best beaches on the island.” 

Trip Advisor features five-star review after five-star reviews as visits rave about the “incredible” and “secluded” beach.

But it isn’t all positive as one user said: “Beautiful but become spoilt and can be dangerous.”

Nearby Aberffraw has been voted both the best place to live on Anglesey as well as being included on The Telegraph’s list of “Britain’s 30 greatest villages untouched by mass tourism”. 

The village is described as having a “huddle of pretty stone and pastel-painted cottages peeking above the tidal waters of the River Ffraw”.

Due to the pandemic, demand for UK holidays has risen, meaning prices have followed.

Research by building society Halifax has now revealed the most expensive and cheapest destinations on Britain’s shores. 

Salcombe, in the South Hams district of Devon topped the list with the average asking price hitting £1.24 million, almost five times more than the Britian wide average. 

The second-most costly coastal real estate is to be found just a three-hour drive east, in Sandbanks, Dorset. Property prices on the exclusive peninsula at the mouth of Poole Harbour go for £953,000, according Halifax
