Beautiful little village ‘so posh’ everything’s green – even the phone box

This small village is said to be one of the most beautiful in the country, with the whole community taking on a ‘green’ aesthetic. Yattendon in Berkshire boasts an extensive history with a buzzing social scene and cosy country pubs.

Made up of grand houses and cute cottages that will set you back £590,000 on average, it is a firm favourite for commuters looking to move to the countryside.

Home to three pubs all within walking distance, there is plenty to do in this small village that often attracts tourists looking to experience some peace and quiet.

It’s also home to a small cafe that serves as a popular hangout in the village, keeping to the green aesthetic that runs throughout the whole area.

The M4 passes through the fields of the villages, meaning it’s easy access and perfect for a quick stop if you are heading that way.

The village appeals to those looking for a quieter, rural lifestyle. It has a long agricultural history, including being a pioneer in the UK for the Christmas tree industry in the 1970s.

Alfred Waterhouse, who built the Natural History Museum, built Yattendon Court as well as the reading room in the village, reports BerkshireLive.

The Yattendon Estate also reportedly painted the post box and telephone box in green as it used the corporate colour everywhere.

It is said that the Post Office could not keep the telephone box red as loyal locals would repaint them Yattendon-green overnight.

The Pantry, which runs as an independent cafe and kitchen in the village, serves home cooked food throughout the week with a sweet outdoor table set up.

St Peter & St Paul Church of England Church was built around 1450, making it a historical pinpoint for the village and a must visit.

In 1974, the village won an award for the ‘Best Kept Village Competition’ thanks to its beautiful set-up.
