BBC reporter Mr Dymond said he thought the biggest focus for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is “making money”. Speaking with CBSN AM’s Royal Report, he claimed that the “biggest strand” in Harry and Meghan’s life was finance-driven. He added Archwell’s own mission appears to have changed under the radar from a “philanthropic charity” to a “global production hub”.

Harry and Meghan have repeatedly come under criticism for trying to profit from their royal status.

The couple has denied this, as they told Oprah Winfrey their mega-million deals with Spotify and Netflix were struck so they could “afford security” in California.

The CBS host said: “Today marks the first anniversary of the so-called Megxit.

“I know they are not officially working royals but I’m sure you are keeping track of them. What are they up to one year out?”

Mr Dymond responded: “I think you have three big strands going on. The biggest is money.

“They are signing contracts to make sure they can live an independent, financial life.

“We know they have signed a contract with Netflix, with Spotify.

“Their organisation Archewell originally was presented as a philanthropic, charity organisation but it’s now described as a global production hub.”

He added the second and third strands to their lives in California were “building a brand” in America and an “issues-based approach”.

Harry and Meghan have recently tried to revamp Archewell, the organisation comprising their foundation and two production companies – Archewell Audio and Archewell Productions.

Since its creation, the foundation has struck partnerships with other organisations and not-for-profits to work together on projects including providing humanitarian help, making available affordable mental health resources to Black women and girls and “radically reimagining our digital infrastructure”.

Harry and Meghan’s two production companies will create content for Spotify and Netflix, with which the couple has struck multi-year deals in 2020.

However, Archewell’s own chief of staff Catherine St Laurent left her post last week after just 11 months in the job.

As part of their Megxit deal, Harry and Meghan agreed not to use their HRH styles or the word ‘royal’ in any branding.

They are also no longer allowed to represent the Queen or the Crown with royal engagements – but they are believed to be welcome to attend large gatherings such as Trooping the Colour.
