BBC stars react to 'emotional' and 'tragic' Huw Edwards scandal

High profile names across the country have been reacting to the news that Huw Edwards is the presenter at the heart of the BBC scandal.

His wife Vicky Flind confirmed in a statement yesterday that the 61-year-old newsreader was the man the allegations of ‘sex photos’ and ‘inappropriate messages’ were related to.

She spoke out ‘on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family’.

Mrs Flind said she was ‘doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children’ and that Mr Edwards will remain in hospital ‘for the foreseeable future’.

Shortly before Mrs Flind’s statement was released to the public, the Met Police said there is no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed.

Fresh allegations have also been made by two BBC workers – one current and one former employee – who say they were sent messages by Mr Edwards that made them feel uncomfortable.

Alastair Campbell described it as an ’emotional and tragic’ situation, while Piers Morgan, Lorraine Kelly and Jon Sopel are also among those to speak out today.
