Instead Mr Grimes, director of Reasoned UK, argued the problem is BBC employees have “the same set of identikit views”. Under the BBC’s proposal a number of departments will move out of London to other cities such as Birmingham, Salford, Glasgow, Cardiff and Leeds.

The corporation’s director general Tim Davie said the move is designed to ensure the corporation “delivers for the whole of the UK” rather than just London.

However appearing on Julia Hartley-Brewer’s talkRADIO show Mr Grimes argued this won’t fix the BBC’s political bias.

He said: “It’s not the fact it’s all produced in London. This is tokenism.

“The problem is the BBC, those employed by them, have the same set of identikit views.

“Remain backing, liberal, probably vote for the Labour Party, you’ll seldom ever find someone that would openly admit they voted Conservative or for Brexit.

“Look no further than BBC Radio 5 Live, they moved to Manchester, BBC Breakfast moved to Manchester and I doubt any of your viewers can tell me they haven’t just created a London bubble in Manchester and that’s I think the problem with all of this.

“I actually think the BBC think it’s their role to ‘educate’ us because they think we are mistaken.

“We plebs have got horrible, racist, bigoted views because we voted for Brexit.”

The BBC has long been accused by some conservatives of having an instinctive liberal bias.

On Wednesday there was outrage after BBC Breakfast presenter mocked the union jack Housing Minister Robert Jenrick had in his room during an interview.

Charlie Stayt joked the flag was “just a little bit small” and “not up to standard size” sparking laughter from co-host Naga Munchetty.

In response former BBC presenter Andrew Neil tweeted: “Sometimes the BBC forgets what the first B stands for.”

Ms Munchetty later apologised on Twitter after liking Tweets that were “offensive in nature” about the British flag.

She added these “do not represent the views of me or the BBC”.

Mr Grimes, who ran the pro-Brexit BeLeave campaign during the 2016 referendum, noted growing public dissatisfaction with the BBC.

He commented: “If you look at polling by ComRes for Defund The BBC they found only one in five Brits think the licence fee offers good value for money and almost half complain it’s not in turn with people outside of London.”

Question Time: Mark Reckless clashes with host over BBC bias

Referring to the reorganisation the Brexiteer joked: “You could argue it’s quite a laudable aim and no doubt many comfortable lives and new schools will have to be found for children in, God forbit, the north!”

A part of its reorganisation the BBC’s Technology team is being moved to Glasgow whilst BBC Two’s Newsnight will be broadcast from different locations around the UK.

Radio 4’s flagship Today programme will also take place outside the capital at least 100 times each year.

Announcing the moves Mr Davie said: “Our mission must be to deliver for the whole of the UK and ensure every household gets value from the BBC.

“These plans will get us closer to audiences, create jobs and investment, and develop and nurture new talent.

“Now, as we look to the future, we must play our part in supporting social and economic recovery; rebuilding the creative sector and telling the stories that need to be heard from all corners of the UK.”
