The broadcaster wants to expose the man as a “dangerous extremist and misogynist” who allegedly abused women while working as a spy.

Programme makers claim the security service should have known of his alleged behaviour and stopped hiring him.

The man – known as X – is said to have used his status to abuse, control and coerce a woman referred to by the pseudonym Beth.

Attorney General Suella Braverman is now seeking an injunction to stop the programme unmasking X.

She insists there is no public interest that overrides the risk to X’s life or the impact on national security.

Sir James Eadie, QC, for the Attorney General, said publication would: “Damage national security and the public interest.

“It would also create a real and immediate risk of serious or life-threatening harm to X.”

Mr Justice Chamberlain will make an open public judgment and a closed judgment for special advocates and Attorney General’s legal team.

The case continues.
