BBC QT: Kinnock left speechless when confronted with Labour’s horrific election record
The Labour MP for Aberavon defended Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership as he compared him to previous leaders but Mr Kinnock was stumped after being savaged by an audience member who questioned Labour’s victories in the past 50 years. An audience member asked: “If you take out the two Blair victories Labour haven’t won a general election in 50 years.”
Mr Kinnock appeared to be speechless from the question as the audience erupted in applause.
Speaking on the show, he said: “I think there is a fundamental problem which is that we have over the years been losing touch with our working class heartlands.
“That problem was turbo charged by Brexit.
“Our decision to shift towards not respecting the result of the referendum and going for a good deal and protecting jobs and livelihood, which was in our 2017 manifesto and we did far better than expected.
“I think when you put those issues of leadership and trust together around the particular issue of Brexit that was fundamentally at the heart of this failure.
