BBC QT audience erupts as Tory Brexiteer makes a stunning Brexit point on general election
Lord Lamont was applauded by members of the audience during last night’s BBC Question Time after revealing his thoughts on Brexit. A Brexiteer, Lord Lamont said he thought the only way out was to hold a general election and “honour the people” in their vote for the next Government.
He said: “The actual deal that has been negotiated cannot be amended because it is a treaty.
“All that can really be amended is procedures relating to the House of Commons.
“The fact is, the British people who voted for this have been betrayed, the 17.4million – have been betrayed.
“The only solution now is to put it to the people in an election and ask ‘do you support a Government that’s actually going to try and honour the promise that was made to the British people?’”
This resonated with audience members as applause thundered through the stalls.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he will give MPs more time to look through his Brexit debate should they agree to an election on December 12.
This came following news that the Prime Minister expected EU leaders to grant the UK a Brexit extension.
EU leaders have this week been in talks over whether to grant the UK an extension to the Brexit process, and will announce their decision today.

This could see Brexit delayed for up to three months.
Jacob-Rees Mogg, leader of the Commons, told MPs the Government would on Monday table a motion calling for a general election.
In order for this to pass, two thirds of MPs must vote for a general election before one can be held.
Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the Labour Party, said he would not support an election until a no deal Brexit comes “off the table”.

BBC Question Time: Brexit Party MEP explains why deal is ‘worse’
In an interview with the BBC, Mr Corbyn said: “Take no-deal off the table and we absolutely support a general election.
“I’ve been calling for an election ever since the last one because this country needs one to deal with all the social injustice issues – but no-deal must be taken off the table.
“The EU will decide whether there is an extension tomorrow and then we can decide.”
Last night’s BBC Question Time focused on whether parties across the board would vote in favour of a general election.
Many panel guests were reserved in admitting whether they would back a general election should a Brexit extension be granted.
Caroline Voaden, Liberal Democrat MEP for south west England, however, was vocal in her support of a People’s Vote.
When asked about the three-month delay to Brexit that may soon follow, Ms Voaden said: “We would much prefer a People’s Vote.
“We tried to put an amendment in the House of Commons today to ask for a People’s Vote, and we didn’t have the support of the Labour Party.
“Every time we’ve tried to push through a People’s Vote we haven’t had the support of our fellow MPs and the opposition parties.
“We haven’t been able to get that People’s Vote and we know the reason they don’t want to – the reason the Conservatives don’t want it for sure is because they’re scared of losing it.
“We believe if it’s such a good deal why not put it back to the people and let them vote for it?”
This was met with boos and heckling from the audience.
