BBC Laura Kuenssberg exposes Boris’ plan for lockdown exit as ‘intense discussions’ rage
Boris Johnson has returned to Number 10 today after fully recovering from his coronavirus stint in hospital. However, the Prime Minister is facing an agonising dilemma as Imperial College London research suggests that lifting the lockdown for all but elderly people would see more than 100,000 people die while businesses warn about the dire consequences for the economy. BBC Political Editor Laura Kuenssberg revealed which way the Tory leader was “leaning” as he confronts “different tones” within his own cabinet.
She told Radio 4: “The state has been challenged on every front in the Prime Minister’s absence and there is a looming set of decisions.
“The biggest collection of decisions though, because it is not an either-or, is the how and when to start the move out of lockdown that Boris Johnson brought in from a desk in Downing Street on March 23.
“As you would imagine, there are intense discussions going on behind-the-scenes.
“It’s clear the Prime Minister himself sees the prevention of a second deadly spike, which could be worse than the first, to be the absolute top of the list.”
