BBC host SNAPS at Tory MEP for ‘blaming everyone else’ for Brexit failure
BBC host Victoria Derbyshire snapped at Conservative MP Daniel Hannan as he tried to argue that the Brexit standstill wasn’t the Tory parties fault, but all other parties. Mrs Derbyshire added that she thought it would be humiliating for the Tory Party to bring out another manifesto for the upcoming European elections as their failure has been very clear. Mr Hannan said: “We didn’t want this election to be happening and we are still hoping that it won’t be.”
Mrs Derbyshire cut in to say: “Is it because it would be too humiliating to print vote for us because we have failed to deliver Brexit.”
Mr Hannan replied: “The reason that Brexit has not happened is not because there is a secret Tory plot to stop it.
“It is because all the other parties, with the exception of the DUP have been openly trying to stop it.
“We want to get this over the line.
“The reason it hasn’t happened is we have not had the numbers in Parliament.”
The BBC host snapped: “And you still won’t have the numbers after the Euro elections next week.
The Tory MP attempted to answer and said: “In fairness to them the Lib-Dems, the SNP, the Greens, all of them openly at the last election said that they wanted to stop Brexit and all of them lost votes as a consequence.
“Labour was a bit naughtier, they said at the time that they accept the result and now behave differently.
“But the reality is that as long as a majority in the House of Commons is saying to the EU we will not leave without your permission and we will not leave without a deal then the EU has had no incentive.”
Mrs Derbyshire then interrupted the MP and said: “You have blamed everyone else apart from your own party and your own Prime Minister.
“Are you trying to say this has nothing to do with the way that your Prime Minister has dealt with this over the last couple years.”
The Tory MP attempted to defend his complaints and claimed that Theresa May would not be along for much longer as someone on the panel can be heard saying: “You say that but she is still here.”
