BBC host silences Remainer on live TV – ‘I won’t let you make any Remoaning speeches!’
Carrie Gracie stunned a BBC panel of Remain-backing correspondents by insisting she would not allow any “Remoaning speeches” on her programme. The shock intervention from the BBC host came live on-air during this afternoon’s BBC Dateline. To the fury of Remainers online, Gracie silenced Scottish correspondent Isabel Hilton before she could launch into an anti-Brexit attack.
Gracie justified the intervention by explaining that the weekly BBC programme, which involves four foreign correspondents, did not have any Brexit-backing panelist this week.
She said that there would be an imbalance in the arguments if she let Hilton carry on her attack on the Brexit deadlock.
Just before the intervention, Hilton had been discussing the Tory leadership contest and Brexit.
She said: “Speaking from Scotland, I would say we are behaving pretty sensibly.

“There is an England problem, there is definitely an England problem when it comes to Brexit.
“Boris has recognised that the Tory Party is in the grip of a cult and that cults tend toward extremes and he has won them over.”
This prompted Gracie to stop Hilton: “Hold on. We don’t have any firm Brexiteers on this panel today so I won’t let you make any Remoaning speeches.”
Hilton looked visibly stunned by the remark, before she laughed it off.
Remain-backing users on Twitter condemned the BBC for the remark.
One said: “Using a term like ‘remoaning’ when the opposite is just ‘firm Brexiteer’ is another example of the BBC misinterpreting what it means to be impartial.”
Another added: “Are you kidding me Carrie Gracie on BBC Dateline. Disgraceful journalism from a Biased BBC.”
